The 5-year rule
Under SASO instructions, a passenger car older than five years from its manufacturing date cannot be imported. The age is counted from the manufacturing date. Heavy trucks over 3.5 tons are the only exception mentioned, and they have their own 5-year operating-age rule.
- The car must be for personal use.
- It must be in good condition without major faults.
- You pay customs duty, VAT and any applicable fees on arrival.
Choosing a Korean car that qualifies
Pick a car well inside the limit — the shipping time also counts. Recent model years with low mileage are the safest choice.
