What changed
In March 2026, Georgia replaced its planned ban on importing passenger cars older than six years with a much higher excise. For those cars, the excise rises from 0.8 GEL to 4.5 GEL per cubic centimetre of engine volume.
| Engine | Before | After (over 6 years) |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5 L | 1,200 GEL | 6,750 GEL |
| 2.0 L | 1,600 GEL | 9,000 GEL |
